The Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris) is an Australian native of Central and Southern Queensland. Its distinctive swollen trunk gives it a truly remarkable appearance and gives rise to the name. Each tree is remarkably unique and different in their shape and character, creating a contrasting diversity of individuality. For this reason, they are perfect for any landscape design, and make a standout presence as a feature tree in any developmental project. The unique bottle shape comes and forms into shape after the plant has been growing for around 10-15 years. The swollen trunk is used for water storage, enabling it to use this resource when there are extended periods of drought. It is incredibly hardy, able to withstand temperatures ranging from -10 to 50°C. For this reason, even large mature specimens can tolerate vigorous transplantation, with periods of up to 3 months between removal and planting. This allows them to be shipped from Australia to different parts of the world. It can also tolerate a range of soil types, as in its natural habitat, the soil ranges from medium to heavy clay, volcanic rocks and silt. They are very clean trees, and don’t drop many leaves each year. They also don’t rob moisture away from any lawn or garden bed, making them perfect for suburban blocks. One thing is guaranteed – our trees make a serious impression! It’s a great way to bring attention to your workplace or home as these rare trees will captivate every passerby, bringing value to your home or development, and generating great publicity for your business. |
