A window, clear to near infrared wavelengths, protects the emitter and sensor allowing operation in a dusty environment. While an object is in the reflective path of the device, the output NPN transistor is 'ON' providing a 'low' voltage output when connected to appropriate value pull-up resistor. When the Infrared light from the LED is not reflected back to the sensor, the output transistor turns 'OFF' minimizing the IC(ON) current, providing a 'High' output.
